My thyroid has come crashing down. After months of being on iodine supplementation, I started cutting back. I was doing well for a while and then started to feel my symptoms again. So I started to increase iodine and ended up with tons of acne. After not being able to get it under control, I had my doctor prescribe Armour. Now I know that tons of people have done really well on it, but for me, I started to swell up like a ballon. I’ve put on about 7 pounds of water weight in the past week. Seeing as it’s summertime has not made me very happy. I pride myself on staying in shape and looking good. Being bloated did nothing but bring me down. So back into the doctor’s office I went yesterday. I am literally at wits end with this thyroid crap. Since my doctor was all booked up yesterday, I saw her nurse practioner. She asked me what I wanted to do in regards to my thyroid. HUH? I am there for you to tell me what to do. I am at the point where I need someone to tell me what to do. I can’t go on like this.

So I am back on iodine starting today. I’d figure I would track my thoughts and how I feel on here. Based on my previous posts, it didn’t take long to start feeling better. Lord knows I need every ounce of “feeling better” that is out there. Once you reach the bottom, the only other place to go is up, unless you just keep going down.

You can usually get rid of the bromide detox acne that iodine can trigger by taking Dr. Shevin’s salt water protocol along with 3 grams of vitamin C.

A lot of breast cancer patients take iodine so they have been researching this for years.

Annie - Thanks for the info! I actually have a daily regime that includes Celtic Sea Salt, Vitamin C, B Complex, B2, B3 and a couple other vitamins/supplements. My doctor talks with one of the doctors that has made the iodine supplementation popular on a regular basis and tries to keep me updated with all the supplements/vitamins.

Hi Kate, Annie’s right, the acne is likely do to the iodine taking bromide out of your body. Bromide is used to condition dough, so as long as you eat bread you are getting more bromide. There are several other sources of bromide besides bread too. One way of reducing bromide is to use a salt treatment as the chlorine, like iodine, will flush it from your system. But the treatment uses much more than 1/4tsp of salt.

I haven’t read that vitamin c helps with the acne, only chlorine (which you can also get from tap water). But I have read that vitamin c binds with iodine and prevents your body from getting any when taken at the same time. In fact, almost anything you take along with iodine can do this- bind with it and prevent your body from getting the iodine. I’ve switched to taking my iodine alone and on an empty stomach along with raw apple cider vinegar and this works. Then I don’t eat for at least 20min, while the iodine absorbs. I had to do this, since I was taking the iodine, but not getting any benefit. The ACV makes an alkaline environment that helps the body absorb iodine, I guess. It was recommended by Dr. Jarvis.
