I download sermons by Chuck Swindoll to listen to on my iPod. I have the greatest privledge in hearing him every Sunday at church, but I enjoy listening to some of his other sermons. Getting Through the Tough Stuff is his latest series and so I listened to one on “confrontation”. Do I have friends of comfort or character? Do I have friends that tell me when I’m out of line and help to shape my character?

Over these past few weeks, I’ve really been examining my friendships. I have friends from all all aspects of my life. My closest friend has known me since junior high school. And I’m proud to say that we still make time to spend with each other even though we live over an hour apart and both keep a busy life. She has seen me through my hardest time, and I have seen her through as well. I value her friendship greatly, and while she is married, is a homeowner and is more ’settled’ than me as a result, we still have commonalities. Did I mention that we lived together out of college and still remain friends! We will be friends for life.

My friends since then can be what I call fair-weathered. I took having a loyal friend for granted. I just figured that everyone is like my friend Debster. I am wanting to find a couple of really good friends. Those that aren’t there some days and then there only when they need you. I need to start picking my friends like I pick dates. I don’t just date anyone. So why be friend with just anyone? It’s not that I can’t have acquaintances! But I need to be a better judge of character when choosing friends and allow myself to let a friendship pass if it isn’t a good match.

My simple prayer request is to find a couple girls that want a new friend! And not just any friend, but a friend of character.

Not much is going on in my world right now. I’ve been helping some friends stay afloat through their hardships, working and putting together my patio. I have 4 pots of flowers right now. I’ve never tried to keep to keep live flowers before. So we’ll see how long they last. They look great out there though all purple, pink, orange, red and yellow flowers potted in vibrant blues and greens. I might need to take a photo…

I had a 3 month check up with my general doctor in regards to my thyroid yesterday. She drew more blood to see where all my thyroid levels are currently. I am hoping for good news!  I am feeling great, better than I have in a long time!

We had a whirlwind weekend. My cousin got married in Houston and with the wedding happening on Sunday morning and with the time change, talk about a busy weekend. Saturday was fill with 3 parties to attend back to back. The wedding went off with a few minor issues, but it was gorgeous. My cousin looked stunning. And I hope that right now she is relaxing on the beach and not having to deal with some famous MIL issues! :)

My MRI results came back. I have exertional compartment syndrome. My doctor recommended massage therapy to see if that would help and reduce the inflammation before he recommends surgery. I hope it doesn’t come down to that. So in the meantime, my massage therapist recommended some things for me to do to help.

Friday I met the girls for my birthday dinner. We had to rearrange plans due to the weather. It was pouring and the temperature had dropped from from mid 60s to the mid 30s in about an hour. For central, north Texas, that is COLD! Instead of making the drive to the Knox-Henderson area, we stayed in the Flower Mound area and made our way to MiCocina. It’s always fun to meet up and hear what is going on with each other as we are all in different areas of life.

Rebecca has been married for almost 5 years now and has an 18 month old son. Debra just recently got married 2 months ago  and they are trying to sell their house to buy a larger house. And me, I’m the single one and am dating a great guy, concentrating on my job and possibly going back to school for my masters.

It was funny to sit back and listen to each of us. One is thinking of potty training her son while the other is in the process of trying to sell her house. We are all the same age and yet we are all facing different areas in our lives. And yet it is still fun to get together and catch up!

Thanks, Girls! I had a great time.

Yes…I know. It’s been a while.

I am in my new apartment. It’s quiet. I don’t hear construction. I sometimes hear my neighbors in the morning as their bathroom is right next to mine. Not a problem. It’s quiet. Did I mention that no one is walking above me? No high heels! No dogs running around! I’m on the top floor! YAY! I don’t hear construction in the morning. It’s quiet. And it’s big. Well, big for me.

I am cooking more. I like my kitchen here. Eating out gets old and gross. It’s not good for us. It’s just not. When I cook, I cook healthy.

The Mavs are up by 9. Go Boys. I’m glad Dirk is able to play tonight. Make that 12. Dirk just made a 3 pointer. Go Dirkie boy!

Mom, Dad and I went to visit my grandparents today. It was a good, but short visit. They can’t tolerate guests for too long. So we got up early, parents picked me up, and off we went to Burnet. We got home around 6. I never get to see them enough. They live only 4 hours away, but it’s a day trip when I go. If it’s overnight, it’s with an Austin friend of mine or just drive back that day. It was good to exchange Christmas gifts with them and talk with them for a while.

Tomorrow my brother and his girlfriend are coming in town. That should be fun! I haven’t seen him in a while. I always like to see him, even if we do fight. It’s all in good fun. Well, not really fun, but we still love each other after it is over with!

Well, Merry Christmas. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Did you hear me?! MERRY CHRISTMAS. Not Happy Holidays. MERRY CHRISTMAS! :)

I’m getting ready to move…AGAIN. While I can’t wait to be in my new apartment, with my new LCD HDTV and Christmas decorations, packing is the pits. So far I’ve packed: books, DVDs, VHS tapes, frames, half of my decorative knick-knacks, towels, sheets and some pillows. Sound like a lot, well, it doesn’t look like it!

I’m having to start packing early because my last week here, I’ll be in San Antonio for work. So for most of this week, I’ll be packing and doing laundry.

Oh yay!

Anyone want to help?

Thanksgiving was great…3 dogs: Dora, Thelma and Gramp’s new puppy Mandy. It was quite interesting and quite entertaining.
Back to work tomorrow.

What the heck has happened to customer service lately? I thought it was based on the customer, not on the employee.

I went to church Saturday evening and ran into my boss and her husband. So I went to dinner with them to Blackeyed Pea along with some of their friends. A table of 6, with only 4 of us eating a real meal. Now I’ve waited tables before, for about 2 years, so I know how hard and how easy it can be.

So waiting on 6 people can be handful IF you have other tables. Okay, so this guy had another table of 3 people after we had been there a while. But he didn’t bring out my boss’s and husband’s salads, he had the nerve to ask one guy, “would you like more tea, sir” and then repeatedly forgot to keep our glasses filled, mind you, we weren’t fishes! Why would you ask someone, would you like more tea, when we had only been there maybe 10 minutes. GRRRRRRRR! Of course, dude, we want more tea, Coke…er Pepsi, Dr Pepper, Water, etc. Just fill us up! By lack of attention, due to his bad service, we got our meals for free.

Luckily for Blackeyed Pea and it’s customers, that server only has one week left.

Well, my best friend is married. The wedding was beautiful, and for the most part, it went very smoothly.

Congrats to Debra and Brady! I hope that your life together brings many years of happiness.

McDuff was a great sport the whole weekend. Poor guy, he got drug everywhere for the whole weekend.

So for Debra’s last weekend of being a single mingle, we all went out and had a photo shoot. We got some good photos of the 5 of us. Afterwards, we ended up at Simply Fondue. The cheese and chocolate fondues were AWESOME! We cooked our own meat at the table, which I wouldn’t want to do again. It was too much work for the amount of money it normally costs. We had a lot of fun and a lot of memories were made.

My friend Chip recently invited Sherry (another friend of ours) and me to a Rough Riders game. Chip works for them and hooks us up with sweet deals. This time, it was all inclusive…dinner, drinks, parking, you name it! Here is a photo of Sherry and me on the field.

We had a great time and thanks so much to Chip for making us feel not only cool, but special. I owe you one, Chip!
